To answer this question I needed to examine how I managed my spare time before and after my purchase of the Shopsmith. It all boils down to productivity.
Before my Shopsmith I spent my spare time playing around with website development, spending money at the bar and watching a lot of TV. Neither of these activities proved to be very productive.
After I received my Shopsmith my spare time was spent being productive. I decided when I purchased the Mark V that it had to pay for itself. I put the word out that I had the ability to do custom woodworking and it wasn't but 1 week later I had my first paying job. A friend needed a cutting board made for his barbecue. He paid for the materials upfront then paid me $150 for my labor! I have since landed a few more little side jobs that make my monthly $75 Shopsmith payment. As you can see it's been pretty easy for my Shopsmith to pay for itself. I could have easily financed an amount that would have doubled my monthly payment and still have had it pay for itself.
My spare time is now spent doing productive things instead of wasting time. I now make money instead of spending it! I am earning more per month than my monthly payments. My hobby is making me income and I love it! The wife loves it too as she is the recipient of most of my personal projects.
I will make myself available to anyone that would like any information about the Shopsmith. Just send me an email to webmaster@myshopsmith.com and I'll be happy to assist you firsthand.
